HISTORY
The origins of TIM CONSULT, founded by the director Björn Klippel as an arm of the family-owned logistics service provider TIM TRANSPORT INTERMODAL, reach back to 1995 as consultants for logistics services – especially for waste-management.
Know-how was brought in by Björn Klippel who had by then gathered twelve years of experience in the international transport business using land, rail, sea and intermodal transport from appointments as logistics and material management expert for a leading industrial house and as the project head of a well-known international consulting company.

The market-oriented form and content of consulting activities have also been conditioned by experience gathered from serving in the managing board of the family-owned logistics company. TIM TRANSPORT INTERMODAL is a logistics specialist for bulk goods. The company develops and implements innovative intermodal logistics concepts and was at the time very strongly aligned to the waste-management and utilities industry. Björn Klippel successfully leveraged entrepreneurial responsibility and consulting know-how in several projects, importantly, to build up the first profitable private railway goods operator and the first private company to specialize in railway infrastructure operations in Germany.

The first consulting project in disposal logistics was executed as early as in 1993. From1995 onwards, consulting activities were focused along two channels which have today emerged as the company’s divisions. Team strength grew to two and TIM ENTSORGUNGSLOGISTIK was founded to offer consultancy services to the private and public sector waste-management industry while TIM LOGISTIK BERATUNG catered to the needs of clients from other industry - the first clients the company served, were small and medium sized enterprises from the office supplies, paper and stationery industries.

The consulting business grew rapidly and the team increased in size by one new member per year. In view of the increasingly international nature of the activities, they were grouped under the name of TIM CONSULTING. In 1997 the team bagged the first international large-scale project to plan and implement a new logistics system from a Scandinavian company. In 1998, Björn Klippel withdrew from the management of TIM TRANSPORT INTERMODAL in order to devote all available resources to develop the business consulting company. 

The company moved into its own premises in 1998. The back-office team was built up starting from April 1999. The team of consultants has since then seen continuous addition of experts with long years of practice in consulting, industry and services, experienced young professionals from logistics and public administration as well as highly-qualified career entrants – growing at the rate of 25 percent per year. The consulting business grew rapidly and the team increased in size by one new member per year. In view of the increasingly international nature of the activities, they were grouped under the name of TIM CONSULTING. TIM CONSULT GmbH was formally founded on 3 August 2000. In the period thereafter, the portfolio of consultancy services has been consistently aligned to market and client requirements following the company's leitmotiv: "Process – Practice – Strategy”. The company’s growth since its inception has been driven by two business divisions:

BUSINESS LOGISTICS – Consultants for Business Management and Logistics

PUBLIC MANAGEMENT – Consultants for Public Management

The BUSINESS LOGISTICS division comprising five Practice Groups viz. Transport & Traffic, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing & Procurement, Logistics Engineering and Strategy & Organization is being expanded step-by-step with experts from different disciplines in order to create comprehensive solutions covering various sub-tasks and assume responsibility for successful implementation.

The fact that key team members have spent considerable periods abroad and have gathered international work experience in the markets of Western Europe, Eastern Europe North and South America as well as Asia has been instrumental to enable TIM BUSINESS LOGISTICS to operate on an international scale. Since 2003 the company has executed large-scale planning and implementation projects in the NAFTA region, since 2005 in the Middle-East, Asia and especially China.

The PUBLIC MANAGEMENT division was developed on the basis of know-how and experience gathered from long years of activity in all sub-areas of disposal logistics and waste-management operations in the public as well as private-sectors. The growing team gradually explored related topics and enhanced its competence by adding new experts. Today, team know-how has rapidly grown to cover the entire spectrum of public-sector processes including the necessary operational infrastructure and relevant enterprise functions. These activities include waste-management, street cleaning, green space maintenance, water supply, sewage treatment, real-estate management, personnel management and financing.

TIM CONSULT is concurrently establishing its profile in both divisions as a leading developer of innovative ideas and methodologies by presenting a string of innovations which have been built to address clients’ requirements and those of their procurement and sales markets.
